We were fortunate enough to get to spend New Years Eve in Bangkok, a little side stop on the way home from the villages. It was a great time, very similar to a nye in NYC I would reckon. There were hundreds of thousandsof people there and they shot off an awesome display of fireworks, which we were lucky enough to watch through a canopy of palm trees, hence our choice in seating. The Thais were very excited for this celebration, so excited that rather than waiting until 10, they started the countdown at 60!
